Overhead lights put shadows under eyes, turn food grey and make every room look like a waiting area. Daylight from the side does the opposite, and it is free.
Put the subject beside a window, not in front of it. Turn the ceiling lights off so you are not mixing two colours of light. Stand so the window is off to one side of you rather than behind the subject.
A phone photograph taken in good light beats an expensive one taken in bad light, every time, and your customers can tell the difference even when they cannot name it.
