BOSS — Be Oh So Smart
A women’s self-defence brand built around its instructor — identity, illustration and web presence.

The brief
Darlene teaches women’s self-defence. Her market is women who have never set foot in a dojo and might find the whole idea intimidating — so the brand had to feel like her classes: confident, warm, zero intimidation.
What we built
BOSS — Be Oh So Smart. An identity in pink and gold that puts Darlene herself front and centre, custom illustration of her in motion for the pieces where photography felt too literal, and the web presence that turns curiosity into a first class booked.
The details that mattered
Self-defence marketing usually sells fear. BOSS sells capability — every image shows Darlene relaxed and in control, and the name reframes the whole category from fighting to smarts. That positioning is the brand’s real engine; the design just makes it visible.
The takeaway for your business
If you are the product — instructor, coach, consultant, chef — build the brand around you on purpose, with photography and illustration that capture how it feels to work with you. Hiding behind a generic logo throws away your biggest asset.
